Water-based face paint is ideal for detailed nature-inspired looks like this: it blends smoothly for soft, natural shading, holds fine lines for intricate branch and flower details, and washes off easily with soap and water. It's gentle enough for the whole face, including around the eyes, and can also be used on the body, beard, or hair for a complete costume.

How to Apply Elf Makeup (Step-by-Step)

You'll need: a damp makeup sponge, a medium face paint brush, a small detail brush, a wet wipe or paper towel, the 4 Epic Effects colors above, and Epic Effects Setting Spray to finish.

1. Lay down the green base.
Using a damp sponge, apply Green to the cheekbones and temples, blending the edges out for a soft, natural glow.

2. Draw the tree branches.
With a medium brush, pick up Dark Brown and draw tree branch shapes starting at the cheekbones and extending down the cheeks and up onto the forehead. Mirror the design on both sides of the face.

3. Add leaves and swirls.
Using the same medium brush and Green, draw swirls and leaves branching off the main lines. Fill in any spaces that feel too empty — this is also a great way to add extra color and detail to the cheeks.

4. Paint the flowers and final details.
Finish with delicate flowers using a double-dip technique: load your brush with White, then wipe the tip lightly on a wet wipe and dip it into Orange. Use this loaded brush to paint petals along the branches, plus one full flower on the left cheek and another on the right side of the forehead. Finally, switch to a small detail brush and White to add stars, dots, and extra swirls wherever the design needs a finishing touch. Set the whole look with Epic Effects Setting Spray.

Removal: Wash off with mild soap and warm water.
