Water-based face paint is perfect for detailed, colorful looks like this: it blends smoothly for a clean white base, holds crisp lines for playful swirls and shapes, and washes off easily with soap and water. It's gentle enough for the whole face, including around the eyes — and can also be used on the body, beard, or hair for a complete costume.

How to Apply Jester Makeup (Step-by-Step)

You'll need: a moist makeup sponge, a medium face paint brush, a small detail brush, the 4 Epic Effects colors above, and Epic Effects Setting Spray to finish.

1. Lay down the white base.
Using a moist sponge, apply White all over the face, covering the eyelids and lips completely for a clean, even canvas.

2. Shade the face and add triangle accents.
With a lightly damp sponge, apply Purple across the cheekbones and sides of the face. Then, using a medium face paint brush, draw triangular shapes extending from the eyebrows and eyelids in Purple and Umbra Yellow: mix and match the colors between the two eyes for an asymmetrical, playful effect, or keep it simple with just one yellow triangle like we did.

3. Add swirls and color the lips.
With the same medium brush, draw swirling lines coming from the outer corners of the eyes using Purple, Yellow, and Black. Finish this step by coloring the lips in Black.

4. Color the eyelids and paint the smile.
Using a sponge, apply Purple to one eyelid and Yellow to the other. With a small detail brush and Black paint, draw a smile on the lips — or swap it for a sad frown if that suits your character better. Finish with a medium brush, adding a Yellow dot on one side of the mouth and a Purple dot on the other. Set the whole look with Epic Effects Setting Spray.

Removal: Wash off with mild soap and warm water.
