Water-based face paint is ideal for detailed fantasy and cosplay looks like this: it blends smoothly to create custom shades, holds fine lines for intricate rune and linework, and washes off easily with soap and water. It's gentle enough for the whole face, including around the eyes, and can also be used on the body, beard, or hair for a complete costume.

How to Apply Valkyrie Makeup (Step-by-Step)

You'll need: a moist makeup sponge, a medium face paint brush, a small detail brush, the 4 Epic Effects colors above, and Epic Effects Setting Spray to finish.

1. Mix and apply the muted blue base.
With a moist sponge, pick up a small amount of Brown, then layer on some Blue and swirl the sponge to blend them into a darker, muted blue. Apply this mixed shade across the upper half of the face, covering the eyes, forehead, and most of the nose. Use the edge of a folded sponge to draw streak lines coming down from the forehead onto the face.

2. Add the purple forehead lines.
With a medium face paint brush, pick up Purple and draw a horizontal line across the nose, along with vertical lines running from the forehead down to the eyebrows. Keep the lines symmetrical: the outermost lines should end at the eyebrow, while the innermost lines stop a few centimeters above the eyebrow with a more defined, pointed tip. Draw a dot on your cupid bow. You can add more lines on your jawline or lips if you would like the look to be more intricate.

3. Add the silver line and rune detail.
Switch to a small detail brush and Silver paint to draw a horizontal line on the nose, above the purple line from Step 2. Then draw a Norse rune on the forehead — pick whichever rune feels right for your character.

4. Detail the eyes, nose, and lips.
With a medium brush, cover the eyelids in Silver and add vertical lines running down from the inner corners of the eyes. Add two more horizontal Silver lines on the nose: one over the purple line and one above the previous silver line — then add a small dot between the two silver lines. Finish with the same brush and Brown paint on the lips for an earthy, grounded finish. Set the whole look with Epic Effects Setting Spray.

Removal: Wash off with mild soap and warm water.
