Glaives, Guandaos & War Scythes
The reach of a polearm with the cutting power of a sword.
The concept simple enough, by combining the long shaft of a spear with a broad blade, like that of a cutlass, offered reach and deadly force. It took the shape of a European Glaive, a Chinese Guandao, or an improvised War Scythe, the goal is the same. These aren't just for poking; they are designed for slashing. They give you the reach to fight in a line battle but with the sweeping mechanics of a greatsword. It is the tactical sweet spot, giving you enough speed to duel and enough length to keep you safe.
At Epic Armoury, we designed this collection for players who want that "sword master" flow but need the reach of the second rank. These weapons are all about momentum. They allow for wide, sweeping strikes that look incredible in a one-on-one fight and are devastating when controlling a crowd in a skirmish.
-
Extended Reach: Dominate the fight from the second rank.
-
Reinforced Tip: Internal Kevlar protection for safe thrusting.
-
Rigid Core: Heavy-duty fiberglass prevents wobbling during a swing.
-
Soft Density Foam: Blade edges are cushioned for safe slashing.
Distinct Styles: East, West, and Rebellion
While the concept is always "big blade on a stick," the vibe changes completely depending on the shape. We’ve separated them by culture and archetype so you can find the right fit for your character.
-
The Glaive: The European standard. It features a single-edged blade that curves slightly towards the point. It is elegant and efficient, making it the perfect choice for Elven guards, high-fantasy soldiers, or anyone fighting with a fluid, slashing style.
-
The Guandao: The heavyweight of the East. Based on the traditional Chinese polearm, this features a wide, heavy blade with a deep curve. It is built for characters inspired by Eastern history or heavy infantry who want a weapon that commands respect just by the look of it.
-
The War Scythe: The symbol of rebellion. Historically, these were standard farming scythes with the blades remounted vertically to turn a harvest tool into a weapon of war. They became famous in peasant uprisings because they were effective against cavalry and easy to make. Our designs capture that distinct, curved silhouette, perfect for revolutionaries, bandits, or characters fighting with improvised gear.
Mastering the Sweep
Fighting with a glaive or a war scythe feels completely different than using a spear. Because the "killing part" of the weapon is a long blade rather than a single point, you don't just thrust, you sweep.
This requires a specific kind of balance. We build these weapons with a thick fiberglass core to provide the stiffness you need to control the tip, but we balance the foam density to ensure the blade feels responsive. It allows you to transition from a block to a slash smoothly, keeping the momentum of the fight going without fighting the weight of the weapon.
Sharp Looks, Soft Hits
Because these weapons are designed for slashing, the blade edge will make a lot of contact. We use a soft, durable closed-cell foam for the blades that absorbs the impact of a swing. It allows you to throw those wide, heroic cuts without worrying about hurting your opponent.
However, reach is still king. Like all our polearms, these are also effective thrusting weapons. We include our signature reinforced tip construction inside the point of every Glaive, Guandao, and Scythe. Whether you are slashing across the line or stabbing through a gap, the fiberglass core stays safely locked inside.
Caring for Your Blade
These weapons have a lot of surface area, which means a lot of latex that can dry out or get scratched. Since you will likely be blocking with the shaft and striking with the blade, we recommend a regular wipe-down and a coat of Protection Gel. This keeps the finish flexible and ensures your blade looks sharp (but hits soft) for years to come.
Control the Distance
From the elegant curves of an Elven glaive to the brutal hook of a war scythe, find the weapon that gives you the edge.
