Cloaks & Capes for LARP, Cosplay & Reenactment

From fantasy realm high halls to grimy LARP battlefields, cloaks and capes are perhaps the strongest costume pieces a character can wear. They've represented authority, mystery, status, and survival for thousands of years. We produce cloaks at Epic Armoury which appear wonderful but are also durable, long-lasting, and prepared to be worn.

Whether you’re layering a wool cloak over heavy armour, donning a velvet cape for your noble persona, or slipping on a lightweight cotton cloak for summer quests, our collection is made for immersive adventures.

From Costume to Kit: What Makes a Cloak Stand Out

Cloaks have a unique ability to redefine the way you walk and view your identity. Cloaks offer warmth, weather resistance, and an emblematic silhouette that makes traffic stop and leaves an indelible mark on character. A flowing long cloak can overwhelm battle. A low-drawn hood places mystery in an instant. A short cape may be a symbol of prestige or increase acrobatic agility in your pack.

In LARP, reenactment, or theater, movement is important—and a cloak makes it bigger. A good cloak assists in conveying your narrative with each movement, sweep, and twirl.

Materials That Fit Your Role & Season

When choosing a cloak, look to character and climate as well. What you wear can either be a blessing or a curse.

Wool is the medieval default par excellence cloak. It's warm without being stifling, breathable, and naturally water-resistant—ideal for cold nights, rainy battlefields, and extended campaigns. A wool cloak is an excellent blanket, bedroll, or even impromptu shelter, which is why it's a top-notch option for serious outdoorsmen.

Cotton cloaks are lighter and more breathable, ideal for fair weather, indoor conventions, or layered fashion. They're also low cost and easy to maintain—ideal for beginners or costume multiplicity.

Velvet cloaks add luxury and drama. Rich in texture and weight, these are ideal for nobility, stage performances, or characters of stature. If your character has a dramatic flair, a velvet cloak adds elegance and drape that enhances your performance.

We also offer travel cloaks with treated outer shells or waterproof inner liners, offering utilitarian protection without sacrificing character immersion. They are ideal for adventurers who brave the elements.

Form, Fit, and Features That Count

A cloak can be humble-looking, but the careful selection of design can turn it into something you'll be using time and again

  • Hoods are the go-to feature for a reason. A hooded cloak not only protects against rain and sun, but with it, you can easily alter the mood and personality of your character instantly. Rogue to ranger, versatility in a hood.
  • Closures are more important than you realize. Our cloaks employ ties, clasps, or brooches that are meant to remain in place even during movement or battle. Nobody likes to tinker with a sliding cloak during performance.
  • Cut and fit are often sacrificed but necessary. Most of our cloaks are made to be worn over a wide range of sizes so that they might flow well over padding or armour. Loose cuts ensure flow and comfort, and tighter cuts give neater lines for nobles, mages, or fashion-specific roles.
  • Length is another utilitarian choice. Cloaks that reach the floor offer maximum visibility and maximum coverage. Briefer capes offer freedom of movement—ideal for instant swordplay or in-house games.

Which Cloak or Cape for Which Character?

There’s no strict formula, but some cloaks naturally suit certain roles:

If you’re a ranger, go with a wool cloak in earth tones—something practical, silent, and ready for the wild.

If you’re a mage, look for flow, color, and theatrical cuts. Velvet or layered cotton with trim adds magic to every motion.

A rogue needs a hood, lightweight material, and ease of movement—stealth comes first.

Nobles like rich fabric and dark colors, embroidered or not, with an elaborate collar or not. Go long and regal.

Commoners and travelers need tough simplicity: a wool or cotton cloak that blends in with any group and holds up to the trip.

The beauty of cloaks is their versatility. One good cloak, dressed differently, can do for a number of characters and story lines.

How to Layer and Style Your Cloak

Cloaks are at their best if they are worn on purpose. Over armor, the cloak can outline your shape and add contrasting texture. Combined with tunic and belt, it makes a well-used medieval appearance. Slide a pin or brooch over the belt to secure it, and it becomes a centerpiece of your equipment.

Try wearing your cloak with one shoulder bare, or tied across your chest for greater mobility. Let it flow behind you with drama, or wrap it tight for warmth. A Cloak is as much a fashion item as it is a utility item for your travels.

Cloak and Cape Care

Your cloak will find its way into mud, rain, firelight, and many days of wear. It's easy to take care of and a bit of work makes a large impact.

  • Wool: Air dry following wet wear, spot clean when needed, and dry-clean once per season.

  • Cotton: Machine wash on gentle settings—hang dry so it keeps its shape.

  • Velvet: Handle with care, dry-clean only.

  • Waterproof cloaks: Spot clean and re-treat with waterproof spray as needed.

Hang on wide hangers or fold in loose garment bags to avoid creasing or damage. Check fastenings between performances.
